Get to know James Wrigley, new Partner of our Mornington Office.
Let’s throw the old school misconceptions about ‘typical accountants’ out the window & get to know Highview’s newest Partner of the Mornington office, James.
Announced as Partner in May 2019, James is a driven CPA with bright future plans ahead of him. James is a professional with a creative flair, a talented hobby photographer & an excellent proactive communicator who enjoys watching MMA & boxing in his spare time. He also enjoys the never-ending learning journey of listening to educational podcasts, along with a flair for whipping up a well-versed article filled with facts for Highview’s newsletters.
James joined Highview as a Graduate Accountant, fresh from University over 6 years ago. In that time, he’s shown a deep commitment to his role, his clients & the team at Highview which has seen his career soar to great heights quickly.
Peninsula through & through, he’s a graduate of Peninsula Grammar & has always been a local resident growing up with his mum, dad & older sister in Tyabb, then relocating to Balnarring as a young teen. Moving out of the family abode in early 2017 to Sommerville with a colleague at Highview was a step in an independent direction, which James has enjoyed, “It’s great to have the independence. I’m very close with my family so I still see them often & only work & live around the corner, which is convenient!”
James loves the Peninsula, “I don’t think I would ever leave” he said. So, starting his career at the Cranbourne office then officially moving across to the Mornington office in 2018 was quite the no-brainer for James, “I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had with Sam at the Mornington office.”
Originally James started studying accounting as a major within his Business degree, but once he learned what it was all ‘really about’ during an internship program, he said “I learnt that accounting was more about people & building relationships – not just about number crunching – which really appealed to me.”
Being generally good at number crunching & better yet – great with people, James knew his career aspirations at this point were going to take a slight hook turn & oh aren’t we glad at Highview he made this decision!
James beams with pride when talking about his clients, “I take what I do very seriously & I always have their best interests at heart.” His clients describe him as ‘a pro-active accountant that gets on top of things early’. James says the most satisfaction he gets from his role is watching his clients build & grow their own businesses.
Generally, a lover of pasta & carbs, James’ favourite social outing is tucking into a venue with great food, drinks & close friends. Avid coffee drinker, he too is pretty stoked that the Mornington office is situated above a main-street favourite café, Mercetta, & he loves sharing in the round-robin coffee shouts within the office.
James’ girlfriend of 7 years, Katelyn, also enjoys James’ love of great food & coffee. Together they’ve experienced all the wonderful things the Peninsula has to offer & plan to keep their feet firmly planted in the area together. Well, that’s when James isn’t making the most of the beautiful weather heading off solo on his Ducati with his Canon 70D to capture some epic photographs – yep, that’s one mighty fine camera that is risky taking on a motorbike! Photography is a little hobby James has taken up in the past couple of years that is self-taught. He finds it relaxing to take time & plan a landscape to shoot & lose himself in the digital editing process, “Looking at the world through a different lens is really interesting.” James said.
James’ future at Highview is bright & we are enjoying watching him grow & prosper within the leadership team, “Highview rewards dedication & from the day I started working at Highview, I knew if I was committed I could have an incredibly positive future here.”
…and that he is having!
Well done on gaining Partnership at Highview Mornington James, you’ve earned it. We look forward to following your leadership career as it continues to flourish.
